Monti is, of course, a prosecutor the same as Joel Klein for the DOJ, and he is unlikely to be giving both sides of the story. The EU actions are equivalent to those of the DOJ and the courts are far from done with the matter. Do you not know this?

In the US and Europe as well, the defendant has a right to put on its case in defense and we have not yet seen what Microsoft will offer back. Even so, the European complaint was fundamentally that Microsoft was abusing monopoly power by offering their media player with Windows and, by not offering a deinstall or optional install capability, were anticompebreastively restraining trade in media players. Hard to make that into a Federal case, eh? Also, they EU claimed that compebreastors were at a disadvantage when competing with Microsoft because Microsoft's products worked better because Microsoft could avail themselves of the secret low level interfaces in Windows that were not available to compebreastion. At least the EU recognizes that Windows is better than linux! LOL!!!
