No, they didn't. Windows was a disaster. Consumers only had DOS at first. When there was compebreastion on DOS, microsoft embedded bugs in it's applications to break if not on MS DOS to create FUD. Microsoft embedded code to break non-microsoft product in DOS -- ala Lotus 123.
Then when Windows came along, they embedded code in Windows to break if it were run on DRDOS, which was a better product.
Abuse of Monopoly Position is why people kept bying microsoft product.
