No. The vast majority (greater than 99%) of firearms owners, do *not* use guns to kill-injure-threaten-rob people. A simple perusal of the crime stats and population-firearms ownership rates would have shown you that.

You are talking about two different things. You were claiming that you "knew" how americans felt, acted, were. Now you are talking about news items. Free clue. News, is stuff that is odd, new, different. Man bites dog, not dog bites man. Claiming that you understand people, based on watching news reports about unusual events or incidents. Is silly. It's like me claiming I know what it's like to live in Spain, because I saw a bullfight on TV.

I own multiple firearms for several reasons. Some are target pieces, some for small or big game, some, for other compebreastion. In the sense that I don't need them to live (I hunt, but don't provide all my meat from hunting) they are toys, in much the same way that a backpack and clibming gear, are toys. They are things I use for recreation, not for work. However, they are toys with teeth, respect them, or they will bite you. Just as climbing a rock pile can result in serious injury if you are not careful.
