Having one major version of linux kind of like FirefoxI recently had a thought that if Linux had one version that is backed by a lot of people (kind of like Mozilla Firefox) it'd be easily adopted, especially by the average Joe (who doesn't have a lot of technical knowledge) that doesn't want to go through several webpages to "find what version is the best for him." Right now, for someone that wants to switch, there is a lot of "fear of the unknown" (as the avg. non technical user perceives it). In addition, he-she has to read up on several websites and learn funny names like debian, fedora, etc and go through loads of files to pick something he-she is looking for. It might not be an easy task for a non technical user. Linux has come a long way, but having one popular version (like Firefox) which is easy to download from one place, without any "research" buttociated with finding it, and easy to use (developed with the non-least technical user in mind) might boost up its usage numbers. I am not suggesting suppressing efforts on other versions, but working on something targeted for the average Joe (I wonder if this is possible at all in the first place) could be a great idea. What are your thoughts on this? g++linux vs visual c++windows software build performance Hi, I have some interesting data in comparing the software build performace on Linux and windows.
