You're usually pretty level-headed, but you are f***ing butt-backwards on this one, my friend. Copyright protection is a red herring. The real motivation here is to once again change the formats so everyone will have to go out and buy every album and movie all over again and new audio and video equipment. Copy protection may come along for the ride, but people will not stand for being policed in their own homes. It's one thing to own the words, but to own the paper on which they are printed is quite another. The MPAA and RIAA are not out to protect themselves, they're out to squeeze every f***ing nickle and dime out of anyone and they're using federal enforcement to do it. They are attempting to construct a fearful police state around their product, so even if you could copy it, you'd be scared pooless to try. Many will come to the realization that their product isn't worth the headache. The real problem lies with a government that panders to business, but that's a whole other can of worms. A government should never enforce copyright claims against private citizens. If the MPAA and RIAA had their way, fair use would consist of coin-operated televisions and stereos.
