How can 1 Windoze box cause so much troubleHazards of Modern Computing A friend of mine's son was on my computer today checking stuff out. I pretty much left him to it since I figured there was nothing he could do to really... I have one Windows XP Professional box and it is giving me complete grief. All I did was add a USB port card and all heck broke loose. Now I can't even ping the gateway from the machine. I have played move the card around from slot to slot, swapped out the network card and removed all cards in the machine except for the video and network card. The card sets up fine, in fact I have done this so many times I am up to Local Area Network Connection #12. I have deleted the card, swapped to a different brand card and so forth and still no luck. I get the dreaded 168 plus 1.lovex ip address instead of DHCP. I have been playing with this pile of crap for hours and I have just about had it. Any of you guru's have an idea how I can fix this thing? I'm mostly a Mac and Linux user and Windows is not my thing, as you can see :) I would ask in a Windows group but there is just too many trolls in them. Email is fine. And to keep this on topic, had this been Linux or OSX it would have been running hours ago because even if there is a problem, it's easy to troubleshoot. -- Steffan Hayter "I don't do Windows" " ASCII a stupid question, get a stupid ANSI!
