What difference does it make how many people are using things? It only matters what they are paying for them. The desktop OS platform software market is close to 100% Windows by dollar volume and that is enough of a picture for a product marketer to decide that there is no pupose in making any kind of business move that is designed to protect market share. There is simply no threat.

Rather the trick is to grow the market itself since that is the only way that MS is going to get more revenue in the future. Linux serves only to limit the rate that the Windows market will grow in the future. I am sure that Microsoft understands this.
