Well I am just a student studying theory-comp but I have been following this Linux thread with interest because I attend a workshop at night that teaches recording concepts for non-engineers (ie:musicians). I get a decent amount of time behind the desk mixing my small projects and learning from professionals in the field. So anyway, we have a guy in the clbutt we affectionately call "The Reverend" because he is ALWAYS preaching Linux. He is a comp.sci major and is creating, *music*, via neural nets? or something like that. I'm not really sure, but I know, to most of us it sounds terrible, but whatever. So anyhow, he brings in his own rack hard disk and loads up some Linux thing called gynodoblic, or something like that and does nothing but preach how great it is for the entire time he is behind the desk. The rest of us are laughing because the entire thing looks like a childs toy and sounds even worse. The interface is awful. The programs are constantly crashing and he is forever bringing in new and improved versions (they must update that thing nightly because he always seems to have a new version) but the results are always the same.

The funniest part is where he types in some 200 character command on a black screen and converts a directory of his work (wave files) to mp3 files and then lectures us on how command is the future?

I dunno, I just think the entire Linux-audio debate is a bad joke because even with my basic skill set I can see it's all Protools-Cubase-Samplitude and so forth.

Most small studios that the students run are using Digi02's. Does Linux support that?
