begin Error Log for Tue, 28 Jun 2005 07:07:23 -0400 - dfs Your logic is apparantly inverted, so by "sloppy programming" you must mean efficient programming. Blanking is one thing, powering off is another. Which...

I did, of course. Changing the time in Windows doesn't kick the power-standby into effect.

rapskat An efficient program would change the system time without slamming the system into power-standby mode with no warning. Windows is an efficient program. Linux is not. The screen goes blank...

And it shouldn't. This is another Linux slopware disaster.

DFS Hear hear... And this is the one so serious that will bring the end of this impure 'open' code forever. Open source is much that same as interracial...

You definitely are part of the cult. Linux is just the kernel... unless the screensaver app works well, then suddenly everything is wrapped up in a big ball of Linux goodness.

You know, Linonut, you cola nuts are so easily led by your noses. You think I go into these situations blind, but you don't realize that before I report these slopware bugs to cola I've usually tried lots of options - even read man pages - to find where the breakdowns occur. Of course I can snychronize with Internet time, of course I can go hunting for other mirrors, of course I can make sure I click the arrow instead of the checkbox in rpmdrake, of course I can use the -p switch when copying files to preserve modified time, of course I can shut down one app before the other so the 2nd doesn't crash the first, etc.

In some cases I can't find a workaround or option or method to correct the odd Linux behavior. In some cases I can. Sometimes that's just how Linux works - it's different from Windows, not necessarily worse or better.

The point is, with a huge amount of Linux experience and education bypbutting these bogus bugs I report is 2nd nature - you overlook the quirks and bugs and work around them without thinking, then call everyone stupid who experiences them.

But Windows does them correctly without torturing you.

You KNOW what he meant.
