Well, if you just working on Windows machines randomly then that still would likely be true. :)

Windows machines, due to malware and registry rot if nothing else, do tend to break down a lot more than Macs or, from what I can tell, Linux machines. Still, my first sentence is a bit tongue in cheek. :)

This is a wrong view, IMO, rapskat. Every product does have an equal opportunity to compete if there is no law or such restricting it's...

I use Mac and Windows professionally - with the leaning going more to Mac personally (and home office) and a good mix out of the house professionally (teaching, tech support).

DFS No, I don't run Sun hardware. The ad, if you had read it, points to the fact that this is about as generic amd64 hardware as you can get. If...

Through the years I have found that my tech time to keep things running is less that most other techs - sometimes by very substantial amounts... but that the Mac tech work is almost always much less than my Windows times. There may be some minimal amount of this because I do prefer and use Macs when I have a choice (generally - depends on what the task is), but, as I said, I almost always am able to do a better tech job for Windows schools that other techs they have had.

There is no doubt in my mind that as a general rule Windows, when compared to OS X, is harder to maintain and work with and is - for companies - more expensive. It would be interesting to see how Linux businesses do, but I do not know of any techs supporting a Linux business. Heck, I only know of one business in my area using Linux. Perhaps that will change over time...

Makes sense. Much of my comparison is based on not just what the systems do when they are *not* working, but what the do when they *are* working... still, I know Linux less well, so I am sure I have made wrong buttumptions from time to time.

Fair enough... though I bet you use many other commercial products - including your hardware.

Agreed.

I would love to see MS taken down a couple notches by both Apple and Linux... let MS still have the lions share... that will keep them the biggest target for malware writers. :)

Computers, and OS's in particular, are a hard thing to get people to change... they just have so much invested in their current choice. It is often easier to move to the majority platform than the minority platforms simply due to what is available.

Not sure I get that angry over computer platforms - but I can see where you are coming from.

Thanks.
