More like 300-400... but, when push comes to shove, there's only about six "general purpose" ones, so unless you have compelling need for the special attributes of the rest, you're simply being dishonest in bringing them up in this context.

Since Linux works on a far greater variety of hardware than Windows does, then yes, chances are, if the hardware isn't working, it's hooped. Well, either that, or you're not smart enough to be allowed to buy hardware, since the concept of "works with my system" is obviously beyond your ability to grasp - you'd end up with some Mac-specific thing when you're trying to get a Windows-supported device.

Since almost any problem you encounter is likely to be reasonably well documented, requiring only the ability on your part to read and comprehend... then yes, your failure suggests you need remedial courses in those areas.

As the saying goes, Unix *is* user-friendly - it's just picky about who it considers a friend. If you're so pathetic that even an inanimate OS rejects you, there's not much hope for you - might as well go shoot yourself now.

Indeed. If you can't be trusted to run your own OS - and from all the Windows zombies out there, most can't - you need to really learn how to use a computer before trying to play with the big boys. Tonka Toys are fun to play with and safe enough, but you need to learn real skills before trying the real thing.

Seems reasonable, considering the extent of what a media player does - mime type buttociations, plugin mechanisms, embedded playback, etc, etc, etc. On the other hand, haven't needed to do this, myself.

I wish XP worked on my machine after only 4 tweaks. Usually it's more like 40, and still needs endless handholding.
