If you get it stable, don't change it. Or you are hosed

I have come to the realization that if you ever get linux working, don't change a thing.

I ran Xandros 3.0 yesterday. It was all starting to work great. Took me 6 hours to set it all up, download all the stuff, root here, bin there, yada yada.

I've heard lots of good things about Ubuntu, so when I received the CDs from shipit.ubuntu.com, I decided to give it a try. I booted the...

Then, ole Xandros talks on the web site that there is a recommended security patch. I told Xandros Networks, go ahead.

It installed, and told me to reboot. I rebooted.

I didn't get their boot manager, the freaking screen was filled with various number nines all over the place. I could not log into Xandros or Windows XP. (why number 9's I have no idea)

Agreed. But I was relating the average income to the impact of paying $1 for a...

I used a SimplyMepis cd, installed their boot manager, and got to Windows.

I trashed Xandros immediately. There is no QUALITY in Linux. If you get it working, don't change it. You may be sorry.

This is not DESKTOP ready what so ever. What if this had been on of my client LAW FIRMS. HOLY COW. What a nightmare that would have been.

This is not a Xandros only problem.

I can's install Fedora Core 4, because it can't find FAT drives, and you have to set those up correctly. If you mess up in the FSTAB file, you are hosed again. There are ERRORs ALL OVER THE WEB, on how to do this. So there goes sharing files with a fat drive. The USB Flash drives do not mount. They can't do the DVD's to get CLE credits on either Linux. Yeah, some people got it working, but a Law Firm does not want me to go to a site from Europe to get stuff I can't install in the USA.

I mean, what the hell.
