Im going to try SUSE. 6668 plus 1Hi, Thank you for you very consistent answer. First of all I always tought windows let normal users to do too much, I Just don«t want to move to a OS where they can do too little. But I guess I«m misanderstanding UBUNTU.
So how do I install a program that is going to be used for all users in the machine like OpenOffice(I guess with the root pbuttword, but in wich directory?),Is it just a click and click yes and yes and yes like I did in Windows?
Im going to try SUSE. 6670 BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 On 5 Dec 2005 01:46:06 -0800, Menu item: You will be asked for *your* pbuttword. After entering it, Synaptic will run, click search, and enter some...
I«m from that time,I started to say folder because new users in Brazil got confused when I say go to that directory. I know that ,In fact in the company where I work we try to install every software needed and tell the users not to install anything. If they want to install anything else they should ask for support and we install it VIA VNC. I think for us Linux culture will be very easy to adopt. Unfortunatelly I guess 80% percent of Brazilian small companies don«t have a departament or even a person to do this job. I guess now that we have BrandBroad they would probably make support arrangements with other companies, probaly Linux will grow very fast in the coming years here in Brazil.
suddenly there was this big outbreak of a virus of some kind - I don't remember which one as I don't use Windows and I don't care about such matters - and all the spammer's Windows PC's had become infected, leading to some 180 spam e-mails per day being sent to bogus addresses in our domain - and hence to my Inbox - which all carried the virus(es) as an attachment. We avaoid that by having a Linux Firewall,a distro named BRMA by a local producer (very nice one.)
I«ll give it another try,In fact I like the UBUNTU point of view more than I like the NOVEL«S one.
I don«t remember to have Microsoft had one good Idea, But the Apple initiative to make thing easy for dummies are a good one, I think it is up to the Linux comunitty to control these Dummies, but not to make them feel like prisioners. I guess UBUNTU came for that,But I have to read a lot of manuals. Regards, Marcello
