On Sat, 10 Sep 2005 10:24:45 -0600, Oxford You need to think as well Oxford. Gun ownership and the Second Amendment have nothing to do with hunting, target practice or home and self-defense against armed criminals. These are all nice by-products but not the primary focus. Nor is it about the right of the populace to form citizen militia. Read it for your-self and put your brain in gear as you do. "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." The framers of the Consbreastution knew that, in order for the people of this new country to remain free and secure, military force(read: well regulated militia) would be necessary to defend against any aggressors. However, they had just witnessed, and were still experiencing, what happens when a government turns it "well regulated militia" against the citizens. The framers and founding fathers wanted it known, by the government and the citizens, that the citizens had the right to arm themselves in order that they could fight back in the event that it were to ever happen again.
