Linux Needs Dell...... 11074

Personally, I think the only thing that will stop Microsoft right now is Microsoft itself. Windows has the preloads, and Microsoft can keep it that way for a long time with the revenue and bankroll they have. Apple may put a little ding into MS's market share, since it is probably a little more palatable and well-known to the average user. But it needs pretty much the same app-web coverage as Windows to attract people who've gotten used to Windows. Linux can be configured to be pretty close to Windows. Hell, make a deal with Crossover Office, and you're pretty close a machine that the user can use pretty much like Windows (once IE is obtained, and that can be scripted.) But there's no company that, like Microsoft, can issue money back for pushing the Linux name. My hope is merely for a market where Mac and Linux take up a quarter of the desktop market, with Linux at 10% at least. Who knows, though, businesses may drive the adoption of Linux to even higher levels. At least there's something to shoot for. Right now, Microsoft has proven that it can fall into poo over and over and still come up smelling like a (slightly rancid) rose. -- Linux - A most satisfying eXPerience
