I am wondering if there is a similar common solution for Linux. As far as I know there is not, but I may very well be wrong.

Let's say I have a customer in a similar situation - they are using Windows and hate it. My solution for this customer was to have him buy a Mac. The solution has worked very well - but clearly it was not free. He got his Mac before the mini was available... so even a low end Mac included a new monitor. Linux would have been a cheaper option for him. If Linux would work for him as well as a Mac I could have moved him there. As it is, it is unlikely Linux would have worked for him as well, and he likely would have given up and never moved to a workable solution.

If Linux can do the things many people are looking for I likely will end up getting dissatisfied Windows users to move to it... what better Linux advocacy can you ask for?

This user is unlikely to change... but as I said in the first post:

While this will not likely effect this one man that much (he is not letting go of his Mac) it may effect other customers...

On the comp.os.linux.advocacy meeting for Friday 29 July 2005 02:03 am, Snit submitted the following proposal... Personally, I don't know of any, really because I haven't looked. You say it...

I would love to save customers money and move them to Linux... if that would be a good solution for them.

It is very cool that this *can*, in theory, be done... but the question is if it is being done, and if so in what program(s).

-- Look, this is silly. It's not an argument, it's an armor plated walrus with walnut paneling and an all leather interior.
