Richard Stallman is probably more to blame for those types of "advocates" than anyone else. He himself has an autistic, obsessive kind of fanaticism which some of the people who listen to him have a tendency to emulate. I personally don't see Linus as God, though. A somewhat gifted programmer perhaps, yes. God, no. I don't see RMS as God, either...although he'd probably be somewhat more upset about that than Linus, I suspect. He seems to like people worshipping him. Blame RMS for the unwashed hippie aspect, as well.

However, I personally don't agree with condemning Linux as an OS just because some of the other people who use it are obnoxious.

Mac advocates are infinitely more annoying than we are, IMHO...because we expect people to have some resistance to listening to us, based on their Windows indoctrination. Mac users on the other hand start out with the immediate buttumption that they're right, and that the only reason why a person wouldn't immediately adopt their perspective is because they're an idiot. And yes, there's also the effeminate aspect. Probably the thing about Mac users though that is more annoying than any other is the fact that despite Mac advocates' constant insistence that Apple's machines are superior in every respect, the company has been completely irrelevant for the entire duration of it's history. The only people who care about Macs are the existing userbase.
