Linux apps like Quicken are badly needed 3368 plus 1Larry Qualig Understandable. I just haven't reached a point where writing those kinds of things by hand is a problem for me, especially since my wife usually does it. Linux apps like Quicken are badly needed 3371 Larry Qualig Yeah, mine works for her dad about 15 hours a week. Her folks entertain our son during that time. She... Yeah, She uses DVDDecryptor and DVDShrink to do that on the windows machine. I have read threads in other groups that explain how people manage the same thing in Linux, just haven't had the need-desire to work it out for myself yet. One thing I was never able to get working this time around was playing mp3s that resided on my xp box with xmms on the Ubuntu box. I finally gave up on it and moved them onto a samba server where everyone can see and play them from all the machines on the network. Bloody frustrating experience though. Someday I will prolly come sniffing around for a program to do video conversions and edits with like I used to use Adobe Premiere too. But I just haven't had the time lately to need to do that. Since we are on the subject of these kinds of things. Anyone around here know how to write a script that I can make xp pro run at log in that will handle the logging into my Samba server bit. I don't run a domain at home, and my wife and I don't have pbuttwords for logging into Windows so making it part of joining the domain doesn't really work. I know how to make xp run a script at log in, but don't know how to write the script to make it connect to Samba. (Yes I am asking for a handout here, almost all of my curiosity energy is going into exploring Linux, not tweaking Windows these days.)
I can actually be e mailed at usenet at jamesrobert dot us if anyone feels the need for some reason. Linux apps like Quicken are badly needed 3370 Ryan Case I've always handled our family finances and she does the laundry. More than a... Ryan
