I've always handled our family finances and she does the laundry. More than a fair trade IMO.

I have this running. Most Linux apps won't recognize something like "smb:--servername-share-filename" even though some like Konqueror do. Best bet is to mount the XP shares as "-mnt-xpbox-share" and then it all just works.

I never used Adobe Premier but installed Cinerella last Saturday. It looks like a *lot* more capability than I need so I'm fairly sure that my meager video needs won't exceed it. Great app but it takes a bit of figuring out. One that that it could really use is a "tutorial."

There is very complete documenation for it but it tells you what a particular button-menu-item does. Not really useful for someone like me who doesn't edit video all day long. For me something like a "guided tour" or a tutorial where we walk through a basic video editing session would be much better. I did find one on the web and went through it but it was okay. But I'd like to find something that goes even further.

You shouldn't need a Window script to do this. Since you're doing this at home you don't need bullet-proof security so it should be fairly easy. The key is to edit theetc-samba-samba.conf file to give "open access" to whatever samba share(s) you have. I'm at work and don't have the samba.conf file available but I'll post it here later tonight... around 8:00 PM or so.

The simple case is to simply tell samba to allow annonymous access to the share. You can always get fancier and make it read-only, limit access to certain IP addresses, etc. But start here and configure as needed.

Once you do this you can access this share from *any* Windows box in your house. No pbuttwords and no problems. Your Ubuntu box will appear right in "Network Neighborhood" along with whatever shares you enable. option and tell XP to reconnect at login.
