Linux apps like Quicken are badly needed 3371Larry Qualig Yeah, mine works for her dad about 15 hours a week. Her folks entertain our son during that time. She would go nuts if she had to be home completely. Our son is special needs and it can wear on you a little if you don't get some adult contact in there too. That's the thing, it plays the files from the samba server just fine. All I did was move them over there from the xp box. Same files. It has to have been something in the way the two boxes were communicating. But damned if I know what that was. Linux apps like Quicken are badly needed 3372 Long smb.conf file at end of post. Configure Samba for annonymous access from Windows machines. Hey Ryan, Below is myetc-samba-smb.conf file. I'm going to step you through this... Well...yeah. I finally managed to get it so that certain directories were available to everyone that logged into the samba server, as well as said user's home directory on the samba server. But never could get it to not put up that confounded log in screen for the first connect. Would you mind cc'ing usenet at jamesrobert dot us when you do that? I don't currently have nntp access at home. (it's a strange dsl-msn pricing bundling mess of a thing) Nice talking to you btw, and thanks for the offer of help. Is that 8 EST? Ryan
