Linux creator Torvalds switches to an Apple Mac 168 plus 18snips On Thu, 10 Mar 2005 13:19:01 -0800, windowsmvp Cheap Applicances On Thursday 10 March 2005 16:50 Reynolds Birthday 50,000 BTU would raise the temperature of 50,000lb of water by 1 degree F. That's the same as raising the temp. of 12,626 Kg of water... Except for the millions already using it and more every day, you mean? Oh, right, let's pretend they don't exist. :) Why? Consider even a small office. It likely has years' worth of data which may need to be converted. It has users that may need to be retrained. It has software that will have to be replaced. All of this takes time, effort and money. You don't convert overnight, it's a slow, painstaking process. Students can't live on Linux kernels alone In comp.os.linux.advocacy, DFS wrote on Thu, 10 Mar 2005 02:29:49 -0500 I'm buttuming you're actually referring to or perhaps which is identifying... Despite that, many are converting, many have converted. This of course raises the obvious question; if Windows et al are so wonderful, and Linux such crap, why would they go through the hbuttles at all? There must be compelling reasons for such a change, or it won't happen. That it is happening - no matter how slowly or rapidly that may be - means that many people, many businesses, do see Linux as compelling. That they haven't all converted, or aren't all going to convert, is really pretty meaningless. Nope. Check the business news; Linux's sales have been steadily climbing, and it's expected to be something like $7 billion per year over the next few years. Really. Let's see... IDC: Linux PC sales to hit $10 billion in 2008 IDC: Linux server sales to hit $9.1 billion in 2008 HP's Linux Sales Reach $2.5 Billion in 2003 Quarterly sales of servers running the Linux operating system topped $1 billion for the first time during the third quarter of 2004... By 2008, sales of Intel-based servers running Linux will approach $10 billion, versus $22 billion for Windows... Apparently, HP, IDC and Forbes all think you're an idiot.
Good, fine. So since Linux is so bad, it doesn't need your help to make it go away, so you'll shut up about it now, right?
