Linux for Pro Audio Work How to Lose Clients FAST!!! 32
Clearly you don't have much experience in the BUSINESS of audio recording and production. If there are 40 rock studios in town and you're the only one who has any reputation at all...

OK, so far we agree.

It takes getting the right project at the right time. Sometimes that's a result of reputation, sometimes you're just lucky. Like we keep saying, this business doesn't work like the ones that they teach in Economics 102.

Did I do that? According to you, I guess I did. That isn't what I meant to say. What I meant, and I believe you understand this, is that the largest number of enbreasties that call themselves "studio" (and this includes the modest musicians who only say "I have a studio" and not "I am a studio") are small timers who have only the tiniest chance of becoming famous. But that doesn't mean that they can't ply their skills performing services and getting paid. That's one way of defining "pro." And indeed many of these folks have no need to use the software that their clients know by name.

But . . . the big money is in the small number of studios that make it to the pages of Mix, and perhaps those studios one notch down from them that have established facilities other than a corner of the living room, pay rent, buy gear, advertise, take outside clients, and cater to those clients. Those are the guys with the million dollar per year cash flow. But it isn't all about money. Lots of famous artists have their own personal studios with multi-million dollar investments, yet they're still not "pro" in the sense that they don't do work for others, for hire.

Pretty stupid. But then how many people take projects to a Linux programmer and say "I want to make a program?" It's a very different business.
