Linux going to be big in China 3740I've bought games that run on Linux - Descent 3 and Savage, for example. As in, actual money went from my hands to the retailers. I run them on Ubuntu - a *free* Linux. As thad said, Linux users *will*, and *do*, pay for software - even the ones using the no-cost variants of the OS. You can stick your hands over your ears and chant "LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU" but that doesn't change reality. That's not the motivation. The motivation is getting appropriate value for money paid. I don't pirate games, I own all of them. But I routinely apply no-CD cracks to them so that I don't have to risk the valuable (and deliberately non-backupable) game CD to run them. My wife likes the Foo Fighters. You have to jump through hoops to play their latest CD in Windows without it installing DRM. But I ripped the songs with Linux, and burned copies for both our cars, so she could listen to it whenever she drives. But I *bought* the CD for her. Linux is nice for people opposed to draconian DRM, since by definition open-source caters to the consumer. Microsoft isn't just selling to the consumer, though - they are also selling their users to other companies. Apple is, too, but their FairPlay DRM is significantly less restrictive than the alternatives. And, funny thing, it's also pretty much the most popular...
