Are you speaking of folks in COLA or Linux supporters in general. I am sure there is a vast difference - I know there is in CSMA. Most Mac users are relatively rational people, but many of the Mac supporters in CSMA are simply not.

Linux and OS X each have strengths...

I have seen this in COLA, and have even had the term erroneously applied to me. I was looking for a distro of Linux to use with a novice audience, and when I found several distros lacking (for my needs), even though I was specific why and provided screen shots, that was enough to have me labeled as such... it was just silly.

At the same time there were *also* some very rational and reasonable COLA folks who not only showed they understood the reasoning behind my comments but were kind enough to point to some errors I made as a new Linux user.

I had this in relation to some clocks being off for a couple distros. I found the setting to correct the issue - where the Linux "experts" who were ridiculing me could not. It was a good lesson on the lack of knowledge *some* of the supposed Linux advocates have.

This is not to imply that *all* people in COLA were like this - again, many were truly knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. I am grateful for their buttistance.

I saw this many times. Rick was the worse offender. He really seems to just not get it...

Well worded... and I see that quite a bit too.

There are reasons for different distros, but few in COLA seem willing to step up and admit that no one distro may meet your needs. They pretend like it is fair to say if *any* distro of Linux has something then it should be considered a pro for Linux, as though people look for single features and not broad feature sets.

This I do not agree with. There are needs Linux does not meet, but overall Linux has some amazing things about it.

I was coming from OS X, so that particular example does not apply.

I have yet to have anyone point to a suite on either Linux or Windows that is as good for most novice users as is iLife.

You make some good points, but there are many good things about Linux that you ignore, and you paint all COLA folks with one wide brush that does not apply to them all.
