LiveCDs and Some Thoughts

first off, i like gnu-linux. i can *really* see the benefit. i'm excited about switching and beginning to develop my database apps on linux platforms.

in any case, i've been playing arounda bit a few livecds and i have some feedback.

first, linux has been EXCELLENT at setting my monitors to their optimal resolution. my problem, though, is that my eyes like lower resolution (buigger opjects) than optimal for my monitors.

it is appatrent to me that something so simple is overly complex - unless i missed the boat. i know i'm going to have to edit a file, but is this *really* necessary? why not have a dialogue box that allows one to enter the resolution and have the file updated based on the input?

i'm sending this email from simply mepis. weird things are happening, though. mepis started up wno problems after i started in xp and restared to mepis. mepis hung up (testing version on livecd - don't get hot and bothered windows zealots - xp locks on me, too! -lol-). i

i got it working again by using the 2.4 kernel... this may be my issue b-c i have a win98 era 2nd hard drive in my 1 year old box. i'm not sure if the 2.4 kernel will work every time.

the inconsistency is weird, though.

pclinuxos hung up just before x wanted to start...

kubuntu 5.10 wiorked well.

this isn't an issue for a lot of folks, i know, but i'll bet millions of people don't like the higher resolutions. it s-b easy to change.
