I find MEPIS to be fantastic - it is currently the primary distro I'd give away-sell-recommend for people new to Linux. It's easy to get started on, has everything most people might want, gives a choice between 2.4 or 2.6 kernel which is great, and Debian apt-get + Synaptic is the best I've seen for people to update their systems. There's also a book that goes with MEPIS which people can buy if they want a gentle introduction to Linux.

I've just downloaded SimplyMepis 3.3, and plan to upgrade my MEPIS install as soon as I get a chance. I currently run a triple-boot setup, with W2K for a few legacy things for the moment, SuSE 9.0 which I've had for a long time and is stable, reliable, and set up with everything I need as my main 'working' system, and MEPIS which is my current experimental system that I use to try things out and play around with so that I know all the ins and outs if I need to help someone install it.

Great advantages, very nice distribution, and I can quite see why it's become popular so quickly. I regard it as being for KDE the type of distribution that Ubuntu could become for Gnome; Ubuntu so far from what I saw of the Warty release is very close to being equally good with a Gnome default, but wasn't quite there yet - perhaps the Hoary release will hit the spot.
