A Linux Nemesis on the Rocks
BusinessWeek MARCH 3, 2005 A Linux Nemesis on the Rocks SCO's lawsuit is floundering -- and now the struggling software company...

I updated SImplyMEPIS and recently the new 3.3 and it's doing fine.

You know, MEPIS would not be, without debian. Debian doesn't have anything like MEPIS. So there you go.

I'd like to see a SImplyDebian (or there abouts). It seems Debian is slowed by making Debian work on all manner of hardware platforms. Multiplatform is good, I guess.

Now the only concern is what might conflict with "pure" debian. I've run both and updated and both (to date.) I see no great advantage to either once installed. It comes down to this. If you're a geek who doesn't mind working to get everything new on Debian to work, then get a Sarge CD1 and have at it. It does not install exactlly the same programs and dose not still set up all things. The new deb installer is it.

If you want every freaking thing to work and be overall better than XP then get SImplyMEPIS. After all, it's free, there's no limits, it takes to minutes to run on your hardware, remove the ($3.89 stinking cents burned and shipped) if you don't like it.

You can run along side Windows if you must. You can delete Windows and get your time back!

I rate it for easy of use for non-technical people and also TIME savings.

Note: Nothing perfect. Who knows what set of hardware you've got or what you want to run. Still SimplyMEPIS is overall better than any other thing on the plantet. If you are a pesimist, you may consider it the lesser of evils by far. Yes virginia, that includes OSX. (Love ya Steve Jobs, sorry.)

If you've been already looking for a good OS and distribution and had hardware problems, DO NOT buttume MEPIS won't work. It probably will. Today if it doesn't work with mepis, you might find a $10 replacement device is a small price to pay to get into all mepis has to offer. There may actually be less problems with mepis than on XP today...AND LINUX IS IMPROVING ON ALL FRONTS FAST!

Remember you don't have to hop from install to install, you can simply upgrade to new software when you desire.
