But available when needed... In what way is he not computer literate? Sounds like he...

They hated them both... but I do not think they really understood the idea that it was running from the CD and that was the slow down. They were quickly frustrated that they could not do anything with it... I did show show them how to use the Panel, but they were not able to do much with it... partly because they would click on something and it would take too long to respond. I was also told that GNOME was ugly and unusable (I do not remember the exact words).

This was with a couple of neighbors who have used Windows for a bit but still struggle with it. I did set up their home computer so they could get online, etc. I did *not* do any set up on the LiveCD's... had I their experience may have been a bit better.

The Linux machine is next to my Mac... and they oohed and ahhed over it... though largely that was because of the dual monitors. We did play with my Mac for a bit (when swapping CD's on the PC), but that was not really the focus. They did really like the Genie effect of OS X (the animation for minimizing windows) - and even though my dock is hidden they knew exactly where to find the windows, something that was not true of at least GNOME (I don't think we did that with KDE).

On Mon, 14 Mar 2005 17:28:48 -0700, Snit The greatest drawback with Live CDs is that they naturally are running off the CD, and uncompressing software on the fly, and it's...

All in all we spend half an hour or so... not a whole lot of time.
