Sure.

The man does not know the difference between Google, and his web browser.

I find that many people who work with their hands find computers challenging. I think they are natively good at - or become good at...

He just knows "if I want to do this, I click on this thing here, and the program I always use comes up." Doesn't matter if that's Open Office, Konqueror (he uses KDE on SuSE), KMail, or whatever. And those are mostly right there on his taskbar, with big shiny buttons.

True, but finding apps, saving, printing, and so forth are easy when you get the hang of them.

Well yeah...

Of course.

I don't have screenshots. But I buttume you're familiar enough with Open Office right?

Don't feel bad - I know professional programmers who get stumped by their VCR's. :) It takes a *lot* of patience to teach some...

As for Kino, I don't have the Open and Save dialogs, but I would buttume them to be standard or very nearly so (possibly minor changes due to special requirements). As for the main windows....very consistent.

A couple of those screenshots are showing different themes, but you can see they are all still consistently GNOME.

Well, that's generally not the way we do things.

No, I could figure it out eventually. In my experience most people can.

Probably not, although I agree the interface is annoying.

I think I would have noticed at least...

Possibly. Of course, if you are interested in full versions and supporting Linux, but not manuals, install support, etc... You can always buy from LinuxCD.org instead of direct from Mandrake. They sell copies of pretty much any Linux distro you can think of.

On Sat, 12 Mar 2005 13:09:33 -0700, Snit That's true. I've noticed it in myself, when trying to teach my Mum to use her laptop. I find myself getting impatient when I know...

$7.96 for Mandrake 10.1

Or for $35 there's the Linux Pack, 7 distros on 22 CDs. Great for trying out a bunch of different kinds of Linux.
