You know what? This whole 'newtard' thing, this idea that a newbie or inexperienced user should have to accept such a stupid and frankly insulting label, just because they don't happen to think the way we want them to think, is wholly unhelpful.

Snit seems to have said, to my recollection, several times, that he's knows he's ignorant.

The fact that it works as designed my well be a 'problem' to him, if it doesn't address his needs. That doesn't mean that Linux is faulty. Or that he thinks it is.

Mostly stopped? Why didn't he stop altogether? Or do you simply not want to consider the reason for this? And he figured arguing with...

The things *I* don't know about Linux would probably fill a large book. It may be that there are things I don't know that I'm not even aware of not knowing, until I actaully trip over them. If someone is unaware a thing exists, they can't know that they're ignorant of it, even when they clearly are to those who are experienced.

There isn't anyone who doesn't have their own idea of how the world works. Very few people are capable of total objectivity.

If someone is thinking about starting to advocate Linux, which is more or less what Snit has said he's considering (loolking for an alternative to XP to offer his students, in addition to MacOS), I don't see that an advocacy group is such an odd place to come. He's not looking dreectly for *technical* help. he wants to know if various distros will fit a criteria. Some of us have made some suggestions. Those suggestions may or may not meet his particular needs.

On Tue, 15 Mar 2005 10:41:17 +0100, Peter Kshlmann Oxford is certainly an idiot, and I've said so. I've had little to do with the other two - the former is obnoxious...

Maybe if you spent less time insulting him, and more time talking to him, he might not be so annoying. He has difficult in letting go of an argument, certainly, a trait he'd do well to curb, and one I've advised him about. And I'd say he likes winding people up a bit too. So, I don't let myself be wound-up.

Ever thought that not everyone has a perfect manner? That people can sometimes be stubborn, pedantic, nit-picking (and teachers can be examples of this) and just plain obnoxious, and yet still be genuine?
