On Sunday 04 December 2005 01:59, Lin¿nut stood up and spoke the following words to the mbuttes incomp.os.linux.advocacy...:

OO.o 2.0 compile 6636
Kleuskes & Moos Is that what *you* thought I meant? How do you I didn't mean...

Or just have it mounted read-only. ;-) Anyway, just addnoautoto the mount options in *-etc-fstab* and the filesystem won't be mounted upon your next reboot.

I've chosen mine a bit larger for safety's sake. *-usr,* *-usr-local* and *-opt* are mounted read-only.

For my Gentoo install, I will be going for the following layout: -boot : about 100 MB - : about 350 MB -usr : about 9 GB -usr-local : about 500 MB -usr-portage : about 1 GB -usr-src : about 1 GB -opt : about 1 GB -srv : about 5 GB, possibly more -var : about 4 GB -var-tmp-portage : about 7 GB (on separate disk) -tmp : about 500 MB -root : about 150 MB -home : as much as is available after all of the above - swap filesystem : 2 GB

I will then also take the necessary precautions to have the root filesystem - not *-root* - mounted read-only. Most of the above filesystems will be sitting on a 73.4 GB RAID-1 array, but as indicated, some may reside on one of two other disks.
