not sure who, but someone said VoIP has been around since 1995, which is true, but not "wireless based IP phones"... so not sure why you didn't catch that...
You seem new here... do you understand how threads work? I think part of the problem is you jumped in late to this particular thread... anyway, look above, it's pretty clear the order of what was said, and my comment of Wireless based IP phones remains an innovation for the future...
No, you aren't understanding the concept... after Apple & Lucent popularized Wireless with the Airport, the next logical step is to use IPv6 & Voice over IP to do a full end run around the Cell and Landline Phone systems.
Apple has iChat and iSight which is currently the most modern implementation that is close to this, but it still lacks the hand held phone aspect allowing you to make free phone calls through 802.11b or g, or WiMax to anyone else with the same device. Only Apple creates and owns the whole widget for this to happen, so they would be first if they take the steps to make it happen.
