OT Faster than light was: Hollywood OS wars 3311The laws relating mbutt to velocity contain the factor "lambda", of the form "1-sqrt(1-(v^2-c^2))". So, as v (velocity) approaches c (speed of light), the ratio v^2-c^2 approaches 1. So, looked at a certain way, this says that "things moving below the speed of light have real mbutt". And it also says that "things moving at exactly the speed of light have zero mbutt". This matches the known results of matter and photons and so forth. (Now, if something actually did exceed the speed of light, you'd be looking at that term inside the sqrt() going negative. So this *might* be extended to say that "things moving greater than light have imaginary mbutt". What imaginary mbutt would look like physically isn't clear. But, anyway...) If something could "qantum jump" over that "exactly equal to the speed of light" area, they might be able to exceed the speed of light without needing infinite energy. It would, essentially, be an example of that "infinite acceleration with finite energy". However, the interesting thing about going faster than light is that, by relativity, it's logically equivalent to time travel.
