OpenOffice 2.0 will likely put a hurt on Microsoft 13326

My boss sent me an .xls file at home yesterday. I opened it in OO 2 in a matter of about 4 seconds. The file isn't that big, but I'll guarantee it won't be any faster, and will probably be slower, when I open the same file in Offal 2003 at work tomorrow (can't do it today because junior's sick and mom has tests).

I also printed it at home because I need to scribble on it and transfer updates to the file before mailing it back. I see zero difference between this printout and nearly identical* files I've printed at work before.

Tell ya what, if you can give me a series of steps that starts with "right click on a drive icon and select properties-hardware" and ends with telling you...

For the curious, the machine at work has a 2GHz processor and 512M RAM,

This one has a 1.1GHz processor and 640M RAM, running SuSE. This machine is hamstrung beyond just processor speed because it's a laptop

Why would anybody want to waste their money on monopoly crapware when they can have thesameresult for free?

If they feel guilty about not being gouged, they can donate the same amount to buttist in improving the free version further, and help everybody benefit from it (versus helping Gate$ and Blammer make another few billion each selling their snakeoil).

* Different only in content. In fact, this file is the same file used before with only some updates to it. The size is the same.
