I'd want more disk space, though. I'd recommend at least 256MB of RAM (I use 512MB) for building, though one might get by with 128MB with swap. The Handbook warns about using too much optimization (this is one reason why I've not tried to optimize it to rest). -O2 appears adequate, though, and certainly I can't complain regarding OS performance. Flash works fine. I'm not sure about Windows Media, and I'd have to check regarding Quicktime. There's multiple issues involved, mostly of the "which media player do I use for which clip?" syndrome. I think mplayer will work for both but would have to check. (I like watching the occasional -- erm -- soft core erotica clip, which is one of the reasons I've fussed around with it. However, I don't watch them that often, and certainly not at work! :-) ) Browser integration is another issue that I'd have to research. The Gentoo 'genkernel' makes it almost painless. Can't say I've run into it, myself. Well, I have a HP 6020i, which theoretically works -- but in practice Adaptec and it refuse to talk write (it works as a reader). Annoying. -- It's still legal to go .sigless.
