Should Suse Users abandon KDE ! 1654
in Well it seems up until recently Suse has preferred KDE over Gnome, which is understandable. KDE although for me is more buggy, and slower overall then Gnome has a richer and easier to...

That's more machine then my gentoo server at work... It's a PII 233. When I installed the system it only had 128MB of ram and about 30GB of storage. It is now at about 90GB and 256MB of ram.

Yes it took several days to compile :)

What was really cool, was I got another bigger harddrive and decided to reinstall to it. I did that in the background from the previous gentoo install. The only time the users of the system noticed that anything was happening was when I rebooted, swaped the new drive in as primary. I brought the system up, and it worked just like before. So, it was down for about 15-20 minutes for the hardware swap :) That had to be a pretty cool linux moment for me...

I think I have mine at -O3... I haven't noticed any really bad problems - yet...

Agreed.

I think it works fine if you install the win32 codec package.

I used genkernel the first couple of times, but finally I decided to do it manually. Sure, I produced a couple of non-booting kernels - but, just keep one of the genkernel produced kernels around and you can always boot using that one if you manual kernel fails :)
