Should Suse Users abandon KDE ! 1660On Sat, 12 Mar 2005 16:20:00 -0500, Hannah Boaz I should think so, yes, since I read posts here every day. Though i do have a killfile. Wrong. Those remarks along make me suspect you. Using the term 'cult', particularly. And supposing that there is a 'the rest of us'. All of us in this world are on whatever wavelength we choose to be. Should Suse Users abandon KDE ! 1661 On Sat, 12 Mar 2005 22:12:43 +0000, Kier I don't even know how to use one with Outlook since I have never had to.I mostly lurk anyway but... Examples: Kadaitcha man, windowsmvp, DFS (sometimes, depending on his mood), billwg, Oxford (macintroll), flatfish (notorious and usually utterly despised nymshifter), Jeff Relf, jbailo (another serial nymshifter), just to name a few. Anyone with sense. This is a Linux group, right? So, those who come here advocating Windows and attacking Linux are trolls; likewise MacOS advocates who attack Linux. The types who post here saying: Linux sux! Etc. Which it is. Its secondary purpose, unfortunately for some of us, is to keep trolls and other idiots out of the tech groups. Which means we get an awful lot of tripe in here. Wish it were otherwise, but that's what a killfile is for It may appear so. But one habit of COLA is never to alter the subject line when a thread shifts, so you will often find posters talking about Linux in a thread with a totally unrelated breastle. OE, actually. I don't know if that bug affects Outlook users. And personally, I don't like the habit of doing so. You'll find only some do it. Untrue. It's unfortunate that due to the prevalence of trolls, the regulars are a bit less tolerant than they once were. Think of it in this way: you go into a pub or club, where there are a lot of football supporters, say of Man United. You immediately start to criticise Wayne Rooney, a favourite player. How would you expect to be treated? It's really no different with Linux. establish decent credentials first, then your criticisms may be accepted. Otherwise, take your beating. I've read that group, and yes, COLA *is* very different from it. I was surprised to find that a fair bit of advocacy goes on in ALS, though, given the group name. I somehow doubt that. First impressions of Knoppix To start with - wow! What a difference from the distros I looked at before with GNOME. Overall I... Yes, you have slagged Linux. Perhaps you've not done it intentionally - I give most people benefit of the doubt. And it certainly isn't ignored, it's actually advancing amazingly these days. Reaching the mainstream. Look harder. It's there. Well, speaking for myself, I did find it a bit intimidating the first time I joined up (as a brief lurker). But then I got sensible and just lay low and observed, and gradually I realised that being too sensitive wasn't going to be any good. Usenet can be a rough sort of place, rather like a pub, but mostly the regulars aren't as bad as you think once you get to know them. -- Kier
