Should Suse Users abandon KDE ! Not for now

Jensen, and all: a a user I am using... both... and frakly if I find great value for both Gnome and KDE applications, KDE (QT) has some of the best applications: Quanta, Kile, Knode, Scribus, kmail, etc... And indeed Gnome has great ones, including the GIMP, etc... But I often find Gnome based tools more complex, harder to use.

I am not sure why, but the API may be better, or may be the way of thinking of the QT-KDE programmers fits better my tastes? Or the development tools are better? Or any other possible reason.

But why do we need to choose when we can have both? For the login console it is true that Gnome on RedHat-Fedora is somewhat superior: clean, fast... but I still use KDE and may not switch in the near future.

Also unless I am mistaking QT being well ported on several platforms we could expect KDE to follow... and get the benefit of exchanging KDE generated files across platforms: not a minor advantage: look at the succes of MS word!

I would conclude by stating that I hope KDE and GNOME keep going in parrallel, providing a very healthy compebreastion for the best API. It would be nice to be able to compile applications with either Gnome or KDE, but this would require a very good collaboration betweeen both sides, for a similar enough API. This may be great, but I may be unrealistic there...

In any case the value of open source paradigm is to not reinvent the wheel, but rather build on top of "good stuff". Gnome and KDE are proving use this is not hapening there.

I have tried to find a Gnome vs KDE fairly recent, I did not I any cases I would be happy to have rpm installing applications properly on the menus for both KDE + Gnome is practical. This is not always the case for FC3 rpm's. ---
