Ah, but remember, they wear the white hats. (As if one can even tell the color of one's headpiece on the Internet.) I just use mailx, fetchmail, and exim; all are immune to Windows viruses and malware (and presumably resistant to Linux variants as well, especially since mailx doesn't even know how to decode base64-encoded subparts), and the spam gets processed "later" by a Perl program if need be (I write 'em for breakfast, or used to). For now, it's in one gigantic mbox file. At some point I should fix that using procmail or something equally stupid. The more worrisome of the spam purports to be Earthlink official stuff from an Earthlink internal server -- and some of it gets virus-filtered by another Earthlink internal server. If I do get a "picture-mail" from my parents or my relatives I can tease it out and feed it to Balsa or Epiphany, but it's rare. But it's nice to see that Microsoft is such a nice contributor to the problem; not only do they set up the conditions whereby a goodly fraction of machines become spambot zombies, but they also send their own pronouncements. (One hopes they aren't infected when they send them.) With *that* voice? :-) -- It's still legal to go .sigless.
