Spent a weekend + with Open Source apps 1317
begin TravelinMan
Spent a weekend + with Open Source apps 1320 well sure, but for a 3 year old upstart it's worthy of note. nothing is stopping apple from building larger servers, 8-32 way servers... Nope, Oh Really Dimwitted One, the admin will sit in front of a nice machine which is connected to the network and admins the server from there. Any real admin will never walk from server to server and look at their individual GUIs. That extremely silly notion is only rampant in windows and Mac worlds Well, in the same time you have fired up a GUI tool, I have already finished edition the config file inetc. You know, the exact same one your GUI tool will change. Only, you just start. I am already done "insignificant" only in your definition. In my definition (and in that one of most real admins) *any* CPU cycle wasted for a GUI is, well, wasted You still have to show why a GUI tool would be faster. It is not. It is (sometimes) easier to use. That has nothing to do with speed of use WebSideStory: Firefox Gains Slowing gudgeon, and cannery process operator, hummed: The Narrative Of Failure : Nihilism And Textual Desituationism O. Michel Abbott Department of... I don't. Actually, I use both, depending on context But the server is admined nearly 100% via CLI tools. On my desktop the mix is about 80% CLI and the rest GUI Nope. Neither would be $500. I am just contemplating spending $2500 for an new Autopilot and another $2000 for a Radar for my sailboat You see, priorities differ. You like to spend the money on useless fluff But $50 will not buy you a decent (smart) video card And it will not buy you the monitor to connect to that card I will simply forgo the keyboard and mouse which are also not needed Make that more in the vicinity of $250 "Trial-and-errror" was not for the GUI. The GUI would facilitate trial-and-error usage by the (clueless) "admin" (a typical mac-user) Well, I'd think very few are that stupid. You *can* naturally. That is that "choice" thingy Well, I am certain you have clear, meaningful numbers of linux servers using a GUI Spent a weekend + with Open Source apps 1318 So? Since you're so scared of OS X that you absolutely refuse to learn anything about it, let me spell it out for you: 1. Many admins DO sit in front of their... You know, that kind of numbers not made up on the spot by a clueless Mac-user -- I say you need to visit Clues 'R' Us. They are having a special on slightly used clues.
