True. The clbuttic model for business software is to spend a bundle on the initial purchase with the carrot that you get a years' free tech support. I would bloody well think so too, at £10k for a 50-seat license. Microsoft don't even offer that, they not only charge a bundle per seatorper cpu-, they also levy premium rates on their phone tech support. Their knowledge base leaves a lot to be desired as far as actuallyfixingproblems goes, but then, in my experience, it does have its moments.

FLOSS has broken that mould, in that the software is free (as in beer) or low cost (hence the acronym), and you pay for support as you need it. If you find you never need paid support, beanie. You've saved a bundle. If you find you do use paid support because a: you don't have the staff-resources to pore over the source code to fix a bug or b: you just want that peace of mind, then great. Use it, use the developer-tech guys, that's what they're there for.

See above for the prime factor in selecting software for business, as out of date as that may be.
