6 Versions of Vista Are they nuts 3339
On Tue, 28 Feb 2006 10:48:27 -0600, Erik Funkenbusch Good. So where do I get my budget version of Vista that includes all...

Peter-

Thanks again for the info.

That's exactly where it was. I swear, I must have clicked on everything in YaST looking for this. For some reason "Runlevel-editor" didn't register as being a possibility. I looked at theetc-sysconfig Editor and probably everything else that looked remotely possible. Everything but this one.

I wouldn't call it "unfair". It was Larry that made the observation that there was too much anti-M$ noise (the symptom that Larry called the disease), and brought it to...

I was able to knock down a few services that I don't need. Namely:

mdnsd - handles Apple Rendezvous requests smppd - for dial-up connections bluetooth nfs & nfsboot

If I ever put any NFS shares up in the house then I can always re-enable the nfs daemons but Samba works well and I do have XP machines to support.

Turns out that 'pin' was already installed. findutils-locate wasn't so I went ahead and installed that. Running pin the first time was strange. It was installed on the computer but wanted a root pbuttword so it could copy some files from the DVD. Once it got the files it works fine under my regular user account.

Some people here (often you) don't like some of my posts. But I do try to be fair and give credit where due. So it's only fair to give you credit on this. locate and pin will certainly be useful tools to have at my disposal. The daemons were also right where you said they'd be.

in 0.34 - package info for findutils-locate
