I'm not sure that principle should apply to something that is principally developed by community effort.

I was under the impression that it was only really useful for Tablet PCs. I sure as hell can't figure out where else you'd use it.

There most certainly is. Not encouraging interoperability between those basic applications would be akin to having three different sizes of paper, with fax machines that could only accommodate one size or another.

Hence why it is more common than OneNote or InfoPath, but still not terribly common. Besides, Dia runs on every platform Visio does, and works almost as well for not cost.

On Mon, 06 Mar 2006 13:43:20 -0500, mlw I use OneNote extensively. I don't personally use InfoPath, but some of my clients do for things like time sheet recording...

The largest portion of users.

I'd take that wager. Let's get up 1000 random office workers and ask them what visio is. I'd lay down $100 that over 30% of them wouldn't know what the hell you were talking about, if you asked them "What is visio?". I'd wager another $50 that over 75% couldn't name a specific example of a time where the used it.

Or office workers. Developers, maybe, but not your average Office user.

I understand, and I'm saying it doesn't matter.

Let's see... Office 2003 Professional (you know, the suite that includes the apps you mentioned). Wow, looks like it's going for $368 plus 1 on newegg right now. Maybe they're just overcharging... Well f*** me! Amazon's got it at $368 plus 1 too! How about staples? $414!!!

$70

Are all these useless tools really worth $300?

Erik Funkenbusch Yup, and these applications are ill suited for a standalone app. Do they ship with MS Office, or...
