Windows is not free.

The downloaded copy of IE I have here says: IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A VALID EULA FOR ANY "OS PRODUCT" (INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, MICROSOFT WINDOWS 98, MICROSOFT WINDOWS NT 4.0, MICROSOFT WINDOWS 2000, MICROSOFT MILLENNIUM EDITION, MICROSOFT WINDOWS XP, OR ANY OTHER MICROSOFT OPERATING SYSTEM THAT IS A SUCCESSOR TO ANY OF THE FOREGOING OPERATING SYSTEMS) YOU ARE NOT AUTHORIZED TO INSTALL, COPY, OR OTHERWISE USE THE OS COMPONENTS AND YOU HAVE NO RIGHTS UNDER THIS SUPPLEMENTAL EULA.

I can run this on linux as I do have a valid EULA for 98se and ME. Not that I've used it in a while... But it cost me a copy of windows.

Mind you it also says: You may install and use one (1) copy of the OS Components on each of your computers running validly licensed copies of the applicable OS Product, provided that you use such additional copies of such OS Components in accordance with the terms and conditions above. Microsoft retains all right, breastle and interest in and to the OS Components. All rights not expressly granted are reserved by Microsoft.

And this machine isn't actually running ME, tho I think it's installed on the drive somewhere... Not that I actually give a poo. I might as well delete it anyway as it's pretty crap.
