BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Peter Jensen That is very true. My system was going crazy...

Out of curiosity, what brand was the card?

I had the same thing happen with a two year old Nvidia GeForce 2 MX 400 card made by Mad Dog. CompUSA (and possibly others) sells the Mad Dog brand.

The cooling fan on the card started squealing, so I pulled the card to replace the fan with a handy spare that I had. That is when I noticed that two of the capacitors on the card were bulging at the tops, and one was begining to leak. The card still worked OK, no lock ups or phantom video artifacts. But I didn't want any capacitor goo leaking down onto my modem, and I knew the video card could be considered to be in a failure imminent mode.

So I went to Circuit City bought a new GeForce 4 FX 5500 that was on sale.

Then I requested an RMA from Mad Dog for the defective card The card has a "lifetime" warranty. Since Mad Dog is a heavily discounted brand (I gave about $29 for the card) I was less than confident that they would honor the warranty without substantial persistence on my part.

Much to my surprise Mad Dog gave me an RMA within a few days. I shipped the old card back by regular mail, and they sent a new one in about 10 days.
