"Solaris" is not a shell. If you think it is then it is you that has demonstrated a lack of understanding here.
OSX is bastardized OpenStep. It is a Unix with a nice frontend.
You will readily admit this when you think it suits you but then back off of this idea once you think it won't.
You also have no real understanding of Win95 either. It was a slightly better, more tightly coupled variant of MSDOS+Windows.
NT was the first real Windows OS from Microsoft.
Even then, it was a kernel with a windows shell bolted on top. This was apparent from the moment they decided to bolt explorer.exe on top of NT 3.51.
The best that any of you so called experts with firsthand information have managed to come up with on the subject of "why OSX is so spiffy" or "why OSX is so unique" all boil down to things present in the original openstep, app API level things migrated from MacOS or app level things that are just about universal.
The fact remains that when pressed on the question of "why Mac", the best you rubes can do is regurgitate Apple propaganda or provide URLS to it.
