That's good for Konqueror but we're talking about the desktop. The original claim was that the "windows desktop doesn't even compare with KDE." Correct me if I'm wrong but last I checked KDE was not Konqueror Desktop Environment.

I'm happy for Konqueror... it sounds like the swiss-army knife of tools. If we were comparing Konqueror to Windows Explorer it would be relevant. But we're comparing desktop to desktop.

But since you mentioned Konqueror let me address this.

For starters "Windows Explorer" can be replaced. There are other free and commercially available replacements available for Explorer. But hey.. let's look at Explorer only and not the 3rd party replacements for it.

Explorer too. I can either type in the URL right into the address bar the same way I type in "c:-bin". The "Internet Favorites" menu item is right there to take me to my favorite web-sites.

Nope. Can't do that. At least not that I know of.

site. If that's what you mean by arching a web-site.

Ditto. In the address bar I can enter an FTP site into the URL just as easily as a HTTP site. (or telnet, or gopher, etc.)

Perhaps this is why I ask questions. If you don't want to answer them then don't. But don't waste bandwidth, my time and everyone elses time with one line responses consisting of "you don't...

Same thing. I can create or modify shares with Explorer.

Likewise. "My Network places" shows the entire network. Mapped network drives appear as seperate items.

It's pretty clever how you subconsciously snuck that "OS thing" in there.... nice touch. But I've read enough of your posts and you are obviously intelligent enough to know that most apps are going...

Same here. Right click on files (data, mp3, etc.) or directories and select "Send to CD" and it's done.

Not familiar with this.

Help is implemented very differently on the two platforms. I can open help files using Explorer but it usually doesn't make much sense to do it this way. All help files are indexed by the OS and it's usually better to search the entire catalog.

Like the ability to view the internal contents of Zip files, preview graphic files, view movies in a preview mode, preview Word and Excel docs, preview HTML files, listen to music clips directly. Stuff like that. Yeah... explorer does this too.
