Erik Funkenbusch Got it and thanks. I'll do this when a post gets real looooong as in some of the "deeper-nested" threads here. Overall and probably on every single issue I agree...

Side note: Larry, you really should learn to Trim at least the irrelevant parts of a post. If you're not going to address that part, trim it out...

I do? When? I might claim that Windows (or some Windows software) has some feature that doesn't exist in Linux, and then Linux advocates will scramble to either a) claim it's useless or b) claim that if you jump though enough hoops you can get "effectively" the same thing.

I ver seldom make any kind of comment about Windows being "better", since this is a subjective claim.

I'm not the one who goes off down those tangents, it's usually some Linux advocate. For example, someone will claim Apache has a larger market share than IIS and use Netcraft as evidence. Then, when I point out that this doesn't show market share, and that the only numbers we have show IIS as having a larger share, the a Linux advocate will change the subject and say "Well, that's because Windows needs more servers to do the same thing" and then roll off down that path.

(And most likely, someone will either start a tangent off the above or take the above as attempting to change the subject, it's not, it's illustrating a point).

I don't change subjects. Linux advocates do. Just because I might include some reference to something Windows related, doesn't change the subject. It's when someone else siezes on that and runs off that the topic change occurs.

I only have a two issues like that. Virtual screens and Browser Tabs. I think both are confusing to the average user and break style guidelines. Other than that, there's nothing I would say is common in Linux that the average user wouldn't want, since nearly all of it exists in windows as well.

It's my own experience.

Since you chose to delete the reasons I gave, let me quote meL Some of the presence of anti-M$ fodder is inspired by the pro-M$ folk that come here...

Even if Microsoft is doing it, which they are in some cases, like with Browser tabs in IE, I still disagree. In fact, I hate that browser tabs are the only way to use IE7. I would much prefer the method Safari uses of disabling tabs by default and allowing a user to enable them.

You seem to be under the mistaken impression that I don't have my own opinions, and that my opinions always line up with Microsoft. They don't. Otherwise I wouldn't have been running my own website on Apache for the last 7 years.

Not true at all. As with the example above, I completely hate the way IE7's tab system works. While I don't mind them adding features that some users want, i don't believe most users will benefit from tabs, but rather just be confused by them.

A good example of this is the MacOS X Finder interface. I can't count the number of times i've gone into a computer lab and found EVERY application on the machine running because users are too stupid to realize they didn't quit the app when they closed the window. This is exascerbated by the fact that the Mac hides the interface (menus) when that app isn't in focus.

But again, that's not me changing the subject, it's illustrating my point. Something you confuse very easily it seems.

No. In most cases this is either a) people taking words out of context, b) people taking comments too literally, c) deliberate misquoting or mischaracterization, or d) a poorly worded statement on my part.

When it was poorly worded, I'll say so. Usually, however, it's the first 3.

By the way, isn't it interesting that YOU are the one that has changed the subject in this thread like you accuse me of doing?

Isn't it funny how everything you accuse me of is done every single day by Linux advocates as well? I don't hold a gun to anyones head. I don't force people to change the subject or go off on tangents.

It sounds to me like you're trying to blame me for your own lack of focus. Place the blame where it belongs, on your own shoulders.

I guess that makes you pretty sad then for creating yet another one.
