The point is... Hmph. I've been an engineer too long, I guess, but I'm too smart to be swayed by mere advertising copy. :-P I already have a method by which one can save a few seconds per boot. Switch to Linux. :-P Ideally, we'd muck around with the BIOS as well. (There is a Linux BIOS floating around. Not sure where my EEPROM burner wandered off too.) They might, if the sleeping system is on the unprotected Internet. COLA is a third party opinion, in this case. We *know* it's crap... :-) Why use Open Source when Microsoft products are so cheap... 10002 One reason is that schools need to have a "standard." It would be inefficient for a history teacher to receive buttignments that were written in English, French, Spanish... And the term "self-correct" means precisely what? Unless you want to claim "fix" == "mired in adhesive substance", "ensure that a photograph doesn't absorb more light and ruin itself", or "pin down", I'd say the two terms here are roughly equivalent. With Microsoft, it's a given. :-) Or have you forgotten I've actually read bits of Unauthorized Windows95? Oh yes, Microsoft lies through its teeth in its advertising copy, when it states "Wow! We got rid of DOS!!". At least, for Win95. I doubt it's much better for the rest of the distros since then. Hell, from what I can tell on my Kayak they went *back* to IO.SYS and MSDOS.SYS on the filesystem when going from W95 to W98 *but the bootblock still looks for WINBOOT.SYS as well!* Goofiness at a basic system level perhaps, but it's goofy enough. (It's not all bad. Most of the DOS work is done in V86 mode.) A quarter of a wit. Depends on how good it is. I might be able to dredge up a few choice quotes, perhaps. :-) -- It's still legal to go .sigless.
