Yes, I do, after all, have a legacy software collection. No sense in letting it go to waste.

Correct. It translates library calls and the binary when you start running the app, after which it runs natively. Doesn't really compare to WoW64 in any way, now does it? Why even bring it up?

A few apps use bad hacks (which Windows compensates for (bad decision, but that's a long story)), and may not run at all under WINE. Most apps, however, run at approximately native speed. Some things may even run faster because of the superior VM system in Linux.

Yeah, but then you're not really a Linux user, so your opinion isn't really worth much on this topic. I'll trust the words of experienced users over yours any day.

It can depend a lot on when the review was made. WINE is constantly improving, so complaints from versions just a few months back may no longer be relevant. For instance, a version released in the beginning of January fixed a problem I had with running Belot, where card colors were wrong for some cards. Now it works perfectly. A review from before January would say that Belot in WINE sucks, while a current review will say that it runs perfectly.
